I set out to reclaim the Mt Kimball ascent FKT at the beginning of my long run on Finger Rock-Pima Canyon Loop. Because I was doing a long run, I carried 1L of electrolyte drink mix, a filter bottle (so I could filter water after getting the FKT as I descended Pima Canyon), and enough fuel for the entire long run. On the Mt Kimball ascent, I had drink mix and one gel (after having eaten breakfast shortly before the run). The day was 30-40 degrees warmer than when I had set this FKT in January 2025 and the trail was more populated, so I was quite happy with a 3.5 minute PR!
The gpx link includes my entire long run; the FKT segment is the Strava segment titled "Mt Kimball ascent" (the segment titled "Finger Canyon to Mount Kimball" is not the entire ascent). I included a screenshot of the current Strava leaderboard for the FKT segment.
Since I still have the round trip Mt Kimball FKT and didn't need to reclaim that, I decided to run down via the Pima Canyon route instead of doing an out and back.
