I was completing the Diamond Lake Double (Thielsen + Bailey) today and decided to see where I would land on the Thielsen ascent, so I started my day at the Thielsen TH. Snapped a photo of my watch when I got up on the summit, though I actually thought I had missed the record by a couple minutes (I had the Strava segment time in my head)-- so it was a very pleasant surprise when I looked it up later in my run and learned that I had snagged it. I had only been up Thielsen once before and do not think I picked the best route up to the pinnacle (I inadvertently veered east too early) and then I definitely did not have the pinnacle itself dialed. Time could be shaved with route familiarity. And just with faster ladies of course :)
I started in the dark, which was the right choice. Hot day today and I was in a tank top from the beginning. Nobody else was out there. The sun was rising as I was on the final climb which was pretty epic. A lot of smoke rolled in all around me with the wind in the morning, but thankfully it faded a lot as the day progressed.
I barely snagged the round trip time (which I wasn't paying attention to) and set the first known women's time for the Diamond Double, which I recommend! It was definitely a good day.
