I started at the Sandy Seep TH junction of the AZT at 5am. I carried enough gels, drink mixes, chews, and a few bagels to get me through the whole route. I headed counter clockwise. I carried a little over 2L of water for the first stretch. I filled up 2 1/2 liters about 19 miles in at the public water fountain at Buffalo Park, just slightly off route. I made myself a cinnamon raisin bagel and almond butter sandwich and got back on route. I filled up again about 30 miles in at a public wildlife tank off route (I carried a sawyer filter). I was glad to have had the FarOut app to find the water, since it was not visible from the trail.
I felt pretty good until about mile 30. I started to feel it after that, but wasn’t having any problems and continued at a decent pace. With about 6 miles to go I felt completely exhausted and had to walk that last part in. That stretch was super runnable, but I was just so spent. With some AZT reroutes the route was about 46 miles. Amazing route and would do it again on a cooler day.
