What a stunning route!
I tried the route the second time today, since last week was very rainy and the paving stones (a lot of the trails are covered with them!) have been super slippery.
Today was better, it didn't rain too much the day before, so mostly they have been dry, only in the shade I had to be careful.
The route starts at the marble processing in Seravezza and soon after leaving the village you get a first climb (there are plenty more :) to La Capella, a beautiful old church.
Afterwards the route soon gets more remote until you hit Terrinca. I planned to refill my water there in one of the many public springs, but due to the heavy rain I just used a little stream on the way.
The first more touristy village I saw was beautiful Levigliani, definitely worth coming back. After that comes a more technical part of the trail, not too bad, but there are a view fixed ropes and you have to cross a loose stone field.
The next village Cardoso also has an impressive church, especially considering its size. After this section there are villages every few kilometers - all of them really beautiful! The only thing is that every house that is on the border of a village has a watch dog that will sprint barking to the fence. I got a little adrenaline rush every time because they scared me appearing so suddenly and then I hoped that the fence has no holes so they stay inside...
Another adventure was the steep downhill leaving Culerchia. There are multiple trees fallen down on the small path and surpassing them had been quite challenging since the forrest is so steep. I had do climb over, around or crawl under them.
The last big highlight of the tour is close to the village Sant' Anna - a big platform with a memorial to the Nazi massacre that happened to this village. Although the story is incredibly sad, the scenery is really stunning. First I was surprised why the FKT route did this detour on an asphalt road, but it is for sure worth the visit.
The last 10k are mostly downhill through some villages. Again I sometimes had to slow down because of dogs - this time unfortunately not behind fences but on the road.
The last surprise (due to me not familiarizing enough with the height profile) is that when you have 1.6km left, there is another steep uphill on a road for 600m. But the last kilometer on a single trail brought me back to my car.
Last thing worth mentioning is how incredible nice everyone I met in the villages was. The locals all clapped, gave me a thumbs up or tried to start a conversation with me which was really fun.
