Took the 10:30AM ferry over to the island this morning. It's the 2nd time I've been here. If you have the chance to make the trip, I highly recommend it. The only downfall is visitors get less than 4hrs on the island and you certainly don't want to miss the ferry back.
After a bathroom break, lacing up my shoes, storing my daypack in the lockers, and a quick warmup, I was attempting the FKT at 11:20AM. I started sweating pretty much immediately. I was incredibly spoiled to have this weather in late September.
I had the route loaded on my watch and phone. I relied on both heavily. I still made a few minor errors but all good. Nothing major!
I said hello to other hikers and doggies I saw out there. I didn't see any wildlife, only a snake which always makes me scream a little haha
The ending was a little stressful. The Park tells all visitors to be back at the boat dock at 2:20PM and I finished the FKT at 2:17PM. My finishing photo is pretty awful as a result haha. Snapped that super quick, ran back to the locker, grabbed my daypack, and "sprinted" for the ferry. I may of been a little later than 2:20PM, but they didn't have to wait for me as I was arriving at the same time as other guests. Phew! I felt like I was on Amazing Race racing for the final checkpoint :)
All in all, a very enjoyable run. ❤️ What a gem...and so close to my house.
#18 of the year for me :)
