We started our mixed-gender run at 07:38AM on March 31st, 2024. We are actually on a family vacation and taking full advantage of the beautiful local trails. This particular trail is so popular, that all the parking fills up if you don't go early in the morning. (Chantal went to pre-run the trail the day before and couldn't, because the rangers closed the road as it was completely full).
If you are ever in this area, this trail is a must do. We start the loop up on the ridge, running counter-clock wise. We took in the vast views on both sides of us. The natural bridge arches are super cool to witness. Certain parts of the trail are super technical, while other sections are buttery smooth. At the very end of the furthest section of the loop, we descended a large stairwell, seeing beautiful Courthouse Rock, and then started to make our way back towards our car. There's no rest though as this is the section where there is the most amount of climbing. We make it back to the lollipop stick and knew we were in the homestretch back. One last push to break the 1-hour marker. Success!!
For our cool down, we run/hiked on another trail that was close by, and saw Gray's Arch. This Daniel Boone National Forest and Red River Gorge provides countless opportunities to explore Kentucky's landscape, heritage and culture.
