8:50AM start
I drove to the trailhead the morning of of the FKT. The 3hr drive wasn't too bad, especially at that hour of a Saturday morning.
This was a last-minute, unsupported FKT attempt on the Thames Valley Trail as a much-needed mental reset. Life had been particularly busy and overwhelming (from the loss of 2 very special people this spring), and I found myself craving simplicity, something raw, real, and reflective. This FKT gave me that.
I carried everything I needed from the start, with no outside aid or resupply. The route was a mix of road, paved paths, double track, singletrack, farmer fields, some technical sections, and plenty of overgrown stretches.
The Thames Valley Trail delivered the perfect space for a running meditation, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience the full length of it in one push. The weather was chilly, which made it perfect for running. I had no issues with water and I brought too much food, as I always do. I felt great throughout the entire run, but got immediate nausea when I stopped. I made it to the hotel room, showered and then vomited 3 x before leaving the bathroom. Immediate relief before a solid sleep :) Thank you for the rides Jamieson! ❤️
PS this was my second attempt on this route. Redemption feels great!
Wonder what I will do next?!
2025 is going to be a great year for adventures! I’m setting out to attempt 25 FKTs in 2025….pushing my limits, exploring new trails and chasing some records;
