Michael Sabrin and Charles Wagner completed 10 supported laps around Lady Bird Lake in Austin, TX on November 12th 2022. We started together at the south side of the Mopac bridge at midnight and finished together at 11:35PM with a total time of 23h 35m and 9s. Each loop is about 9.9 miles making 10 laps approximately 99 miles. Our support stop and bathrooms were slightly off trail increasing the total miles we traveled over 10 laps. After finishing the FKT we then walked the small amount left to hit 100 miles.
This was a beautiful journey and we thank the community for making it such an incredible experience. What an honor it was to share this with you. As a community we raised around $20,000 for FindingHomeATX to help end homelessness in Austin.

Lap 1
Key to the car fell off my bag and we almost lost it at mile 2.5. It was the only key we had. Target Pace.
Partial Loop Pacers: Khary Alexander (Bike)
Lap 2
Trail was beautiful. We had it to ourselves and turned the headlamps off multiple times to view the stars and city. Target Pace.
Lap 3
Took a restroom break at mile 4 then a long break at the car to eat chicken and rice before starting the next loop. Target Pace. A bit long for the break.
Lap 4
Sunrise was absolutely gorgeous and brought us great joy. Charles noticed a new pain in the back of his right knee which would grow worse over the next 65 miles. Target Pace.
Lap 5
All the pacers made this lap super enjoyable. Target Pace.
Partial Loop Pacers: Alice Ainslie, Sean Dickson, Keith Fafel, Arthur Kimball-Stanley, Stephen Ellsworth
Lap 6
Fun Crew! Ben and Rachel kept our spirits up. Ran into Jorge Romero, Alvaro Ramero, Violeta Romero and Julia Romero. Thanks to Lianne Straathof for coming out with her little one to cheer us on as we finished this lap. Pace started to slow. Wonderful to run with Chris who started the conversation that led to the Town Lake Loop Challenge FKT.

Shout out to Leo Ramirez, Anna Budai, Leif Ramirez, Collette Ramirez, and James Lopez for coming to cheer us on. Thanks to Chris for the great conversation over the last 4 miles. Pace was slowing. Started feeling a bit tired. Charles’ pain in the back of right knee increased.
Partial Loop Pacers: Amanda Wagner, Erin Sabrin, Oliver Sabrin, Lucy Sabrin, Mike Conley, Chris Hyams (Bike), Carole Sabrin, Russel Sabrin
Lap 9
Karen was a terrific great pacer. We crossed under the congress bridge right as the bats emerged. It was magical. Thank you Sean for showing up out of the woods with snacks and to Keith and Cindy for surprising us. Thank you Louis Wagner and Carol Wagner for coming to cheer us on with Oliver and Willa. We took some extra time at the car. Energy was low, it was very cold, metabolism was dropping and we needed to move. Michael pushed us to get moving. Given the shape we were in we were at risk of not completing lap 10 in 24 hours.
Full Loop Pacers: Karen Saenz
Partial Loop Pacers: Oliver Wagner, Willa Wagner, Russ Garcia (eBike), Sean Dickson, Keith Fafel, Cindy Fafel
Lap 10
We were able to mostly run at a reasonable pace for the first 3 miles and run / walk for an additional mile or so. We made up time and knew we would make it to the finish as long as we kept moving. Russ was our angel. He followed us slowly and kept our spirits as high as possible through the last 7 miles as we walked. It was brutal. Every step hurt. Crossing the FKT finish we celebrated with a whimper. We have set the record and now hope someone raises more money than us for a great cause and beats it.

Partial Loop Pacers: Declan Dunleavy
Post FKT Lap 10 Finish
After finishing 10 laps our watches were clocking in slightly below 100 miles (99.79 and 99.91), so we chose to walk up and down the Mopac pedestrian bridge to get our watches to hit 100. Charles had intense vertigo from the height, lights and shadows on the bridge and began to feel very sick. Declan Dunleavy and Michael Sabrin put their arms around him and guided him with his eyes closed until his watch GPS logged 100 miles. Thanks to Charles’ Dad, Louis Wagner, for driving us home safely. The day was epic. The journey was complete.
