There is still room to go faster. When I summitted the peak I felt good about my timing and was prepared for a pretty comfortable record, but then I got all turned around on the descent and lost a few minutes. My problem is that the only 2 times I've run this mountain were to set records, and so I don't actually know how to navigate it well. Anyways, I had to work hard to catch up time and finished less than a minute under the record.
Other minor notes:
- I took gloves this time which was a good call for the rocky scrambling sections
- My legs and particularly my achilles were sensitive after a solid training week, so I didn't want to full-gas the uphills
My plan for the future is to come and scout this mountain out on some more recreational outings to really get a feel for navigating it, and then I'm sure sub-80 minutes will be within reach.
