Following UTMB Mallorca (SDT 154km) cancellation due to unsafe weather, I flew home and had a small taper window to do something to honor my fundraiser after raising £1.3k for a local Isle of Wight charity Friends of the Animals.
I had my eye on doing this one day, but preferably in June-August with full daylight hours, better condition trails, and more time to recce the areas I was unfamiliar with and that are suffering erosion, however time was of the essence and I set off probably the least prepared I could be for a FKT! After a rocky start feeling unwell and struggling on the very eroded paths, I found my groove about 35km in and ended up having the best day and being blown away with all the support I received on course, despite me announcing it so last minute!! Quite a few friendly faces came out on course to say hello, and a few joined me for sections.
Turned out to be a dry and calm November’s day and great conditions for running, albeit a bit muddy and wet underfoot, especially the first quarter.
