There were many people on the trail. I had a face mask and either I stepped off the trail for a few seconds or they did. I carried two 16 oz soft flasks of water and four honey stinger gels. I used all of the water and three of the gels. One memorable sight occurred just before 1:00 when I was within a mile the Redding end of the trail and mid-point of the run. The Redding train station is close by, and I heard a train whistle. Looking up, I saw the train gliding through the woods. With the tracks invisible from my point of view, it seemed as if it was just floating between the trees! This was a difficult run. I slowed down a lot towards the end.
