The Madsen is one of those mountains that may go unnoticed by many, as it is practically on the side of the Fitz Roy massif, so it is understandable that this mountain is overshadowed by such a huge and aesthetic mountain range. However, for those of us who are looking to get away from the conventional, this mountain offers a unique challenge, with a less frequented trail, amazing views and a mix of terrains from magical wooded trails, steep steps and technical climbs that take you to the summit.
We chose Via El Pilar because we wanted to do it in the fastest time possible and we had to avoid the most used trail that starts in Chalten, so we could move quickly and without disturbing other visitors walking the trail. We started at the bridge of the vehicular road, where we pressed the Start and End button of the FKT.
We both went by sight, that is, we had never done either the trail or this mountain, so it was a joy from start to finish, exploring and deciphering the route as we moved. Once in La Laguna de Los Tres you can see multiple lines of ascent, we chose a more direct one, which allowed us to get into more technical terrain to play. The descent line can be the same or an alternative. The last stretch of climbing on the rock is not necessarily technical or dangerous, but it requires a lot of concentration and care with the rope so as not to throw rocks at it.

Highly recommended mountain.
