I was real excited to get a chance to check out this State Park and its trail. It certainly did not disappoint. I camped near the Switchgrass trailhead and watched an amazing sunset over the lake. Got up early for a sunrise start with a Fall chill in the air. Started at 7:20 AM, just barely able to see trail without a headlamp. Wore a running vest with 1.5 liters of water in a bladder and 2 bottles up front with .5 liter water in each with electrolytes. Brought some gummies and waffle but didnt end up eating anything. The trail is very fast and flows nicely. I see why mountain bikers enjoy it so much. It was my first time on this trail and navigation was pretty easy and straight forward. Staying left at all the intersections allowed me to complete the "Epic" loop without any major setbacks. I accomplished my time goal, but a faster time is very doable. I hope more people get out to this gem of a trail in Kansas and raise the bar higher!
