The Bob Marshall Traverse has traditionally been completed as a point-to-point route from Johns Brook Lodge to Adirondak Loj. We wanted to add our own twist by turning it into a complete out-and-back, starting and finishing at Adirondak Loj while covering the entire traverse in both directions.

In total, we summited all 14 High Peaks twice, along with Mount Jo twice, for a total of 28 High Peaks and two ascents of Mount Jo. We completed the route in 40 hours, 52 minutes, and 56 seconds.

The only significant stop we made was for a two-hour dirt nap between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. Aside from that, we kept moving, enjoying everything the Adirondacks had to offer.

This adventure was especially memorable because it was the first time I had the opportunity to meet Shep in person. Spending nearly two days together on the trail gave us plenty of time to get to know each other, and it made for an incredible experience. Sharing a challenge like this with someone equally passionate about the mountains is something I’ll always remember.

One thing that stood out to me throughout the effort is just how achievable this route really is. It’s a demanding adventure, but I genuinely believe this FKT has plenty of room to be improved. I would love to see someone head out and absolutely smash our time.

If you’re thinking about attempting the Bob Marshall Traverse, or this out-and-back variation, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to share what we learned, answer questions, and help others plan their own adventure.
