Sweet run on my way back from Portland. So sick that this is right on the side of the highway. Warmed up a little just to see where the trail splits from the bike path and then came back to the pickup to get a sip of water and make sure I had everything. Started at 9:30am and wanted to keep the effort honest. Sea level felt great but my legs felt like they wanted to explode once the trail got steep. Pushed hard and made it about 3/5 up the climb and got pretty discouraged. Didn't mentally prepare for such a hard effort and there's is no hiding on this one. Walked a couple times but probably ran 98% of the climb. Felt like I was never going to hit the top but finally did at 1:17 and some change. Snapped a quick picture and then continued down. One of the main motivations to run this was to prep the climbing and descending legs for Speedgoat in about a week and a half. Seems like a perfect route to do it on. Happy with my downhill and let it flow the best I could. With about 1.5mi to go I had 1:48 on the watch and thought sub 2 would be a good objective to shoot for. Hit a couple parties of people just before the bridge and someone asked "Are you okay?" which is always slightly embarrassing. Had to wait for an older gentleman on the bridge which tested my patience but it's all good. Ran super hard on the bike path because I knew two hours would be tough and kinda faded the last quarter mile. Finished at the sign in 2:00:10. Felt absolutely cooked. Warm day. Had 40oz of water / Hyperlyte drink mix. Finished my bottles at the top of the climb. Needed more. Really fun and challenging route.
