A steady and controlled effort. The weather was a typical Oregon winter day; with a rainy drizzle and temperatures in the low-40s.
I ran unsupported, taking 3 gels and no liquids. I went out a bit quicker than expected and thus banked some time within the first 10K; from there I just went into cruise control mode. Both my right hamstring and glute felt a bit off from 7K onward, so I didn't want to press much and was satisfied to get the FKT while maintaining a sub-5:50 average.
This effort felt much easier and more enjoyable than when I completed the full Out-&-Back FKT a couple of weeks ago! Additionally, this is a solid starting point for the spring marathon training block ahead.
Feel content to now have both unsupported FKTs for the time being!
Cheers!
