This route was a long time coming. I did this route solo last year and had multiple navigation errors causing me to spend the night with an emergency blanket below the north face of Iron Cap Mountain. Do not underestimate this route!
I came back this year with my partner Daniel to settle the score and it was much easier going the second time but even so took us longer than expected. The ridge traverse up to the peak is spicy, class 2-3 in places, and the route finding is extremely tricky coming down from Iron Cap. Tank Lakes is also a little tricky in regards to route finding, and I would not want to do that part in the dark! Thankfully we made it onto the Necklace Valley trail before having to get out our lights. It’s relatively smooth sailing after descending the boulder field.
