Started the Crazy loop from the porcupine cabin trailhead around 7:30 am. The weather was slightly overcast, but still warm. I ran into only a few other people out on the loop- a few groups of campers at campfire lake and then two additional groups of hikers. The trail was easy to follow as signage was very clear and there were multiple water sources (both stream crossings and lakes) to stop and filter at. The trail varies from technical exposed rocky terrain over the two big climbs to some solid runnable sections in the trees bookending each of these ascents. The most difficult section to navigate was coming off the back side of sunlight lake where trail is washed out and pretty narrow along a steep ledge. It feels like a bit of a no fall zone and you have to slow down a bit to get around as footing is not very good. Poles are definitely helpful in this section as well.
There were clear signs of wildlife on the trail and I definitely brought bear spray with me, but the only significant encounter I had was with a group of cattle on a single track a few miles from the end that proved harder than expected to navigate around and definitely added a bit of time to my route. It should also be noted that there is no cell service throughout the loop.
This loop is beautiful with some incredible views. I would highly recommend!
