My brother and I decided to run this route in reverse so we could finish in familiar territory in Suffolk. Starting at dawn in Cattawade the run commenced with the beautiful scenery of the River Stour and an impressive dawn bird chorus, too.
We opted to try and set an unsupported FKT and it was great to gradually lighten the heavy packs as we drank and ate supplies as the miles went by (we did run low on liquid despite carrying 2.5 litres each) passing through Shotley, heading under the Orwell bridge and then into Ipswich.
We made great time up to 30 miles and then gradually slowed passing back under the bridge, through Levington and Trimley Marshes before speeding up again after a frustrating wait for a port freight train in Felixstowe.
Fantastic route with plenty to see and it was great to dash along the prom in Felixstowe to finish in under 8 hours. Great challenge and route and not too muddy considering the rain that fell in the preceding days.
We carried all supplies and had no support or replenishment of any sort on the course.
