First run in the Uintas I followed the lead of Blaine Benitez and Jack Levitt, naturally, Jen Day Denton, and went for the Crusher. It’s a fantastic ridge and made for an ideal day out. Predominantly rock hopping with a good measure of scrambling, intricate route finding, tundra running, and some real deal schwacking.
I wasn’t the freshest after a physically, and especially emotionally, volatile attempt at Elks 4 days ago contending with some cruxy ice. But thorough preparation affords you quick turnarounds like that, if nothing else.
I think that sub 11hrs would’ve been in the cards if not for a couple of route finding snaffus including coming off of Hayden by headlamp at the end there; some residual fatigue and generalized lackadaisicalness; and persistent dehydration. In a word, there’s a lot of meat left on the bone for this one.
