I'd thought for a while about running from the top of Kennesaw Mountain to the top of Stone Mountain by the most direct possible. This is a variation on the Great Southern Endurance run, a race that begins and ends in the same locations, but is 100k in distance. I hiked to the top of Kennesaw Mt in the pre-dawn darkness and began my run from the very top of the mountain. The goal was to be consistent in my pacing, and I had a good day overall. I stashed water in one location and bought water at a gas station. Those were my only two stops. The most difficult traffic to deal with was on North Druid Hills Road. The route is consistently rolling but has no major climbs, so I was able to run the entire distance until I reached the base of Stone Mountain, then hiked to the top. The route stops when you touch the concessions building on top of the mountain. There are many more faster runners than I, so I will be interested to see who lowers the time, and by how much!
If you believe there is a faster route, feel free to use it! I found an alternate route with similar distance, but I was unfamiliar with many parts of the route, and I thought it might be even more hilly.
