I broke this record on July 30-31, 2010. Did this section in 28:33. Ran it solo. The trail was in much tougher condition, soaking wet. My feet were wet nearly the entire time.
The Highline Trail actually starts further east than Chepeta. This time I started at the generally accepted eastern portal at Leidy Peak. I believe I did set the record and I welcome anyone to try to beat the time. My time for the 78.5 miles was 33:19:12
