Did the East Fork of Fat Man's Misery from the Checkerboard Mesa roadside parking area in 6:34:28 (TH->TH). Stashed water and layers at the "saddle" in the approach canyon before continuing our approach down past the West Fork. Route finding can be difficult at times, but once in the East Fork, we continued down canyon. Multiple down climbs were encountered along the way. The first rappel had a fixed rope connected into one bolt bolt. We hand-lined down (in hind-site should have rappelled). After that we encountered multiple pools waist deep. Following the confluence with the West Fork, we did the mandatory 40' rappel and kept harnesses on. We continued the run down canyon where we encountered more pools and down climbs with up to chest deep water. We never used the wetsuits we brought. Once at the E Virgin River, we hiked up through the barracks, refilled/filtered water, and began the scramble up the exit.. Route finding was incredibly difficult towards the top of the ridge and we ended up getting lost. We looped around and scrambled to the summit (not recommended) which cost us around 45 minutes. Afterwards, we continued the hike through the saddle and back to the trailhead.
This loop can definitely go faster. I'm guessing around 4:30. Good luck! Remember the conditions can be very different from what was reported here today.
