Hoodlebug Trail Male Self Support FKT Out and Back and One way (same write-up for both)

April 9

This was a spontaneous FKT. I worked in the morning came home took a nap then decided to go attempt it after looking at the weather forecast for the following days. I needed a long run.

Didn’t arrive till after 4pm and start about 4:30pm only had a couple hours of daylight so if something happened id be on trail at dark without a light. I wasn’t fueled or hydrated properly since it wasn’t planned beforehand. Did eat a protein bar on wat though and drank some Gatorade. I touched the yellow gate as I started my watch and phone. I used my phone for the one route and watch for the out and back. I had set up a garmin pace pro plan on my watch to follow so I could make sure I was on the pace I needed to break my old unsupported record. I set it for min under. I felt off all day even at work little gassy. I did stash some supplies on the trail beforehand. Upon starting I had to pee right away so I lost momentum. Within a couple miles my stomach was turning so I had to use portajohn by baseball fields in Himer city along the trail. Was gonna use the bushes but I made it there so I used the portajohn option instead.

There was a chill in the air. It was 50ish degrees and overcast with slight breeze. My head felt the breeze and slight chill knew afterwards id have headache. I wire ling sleeve shirt and took my pack with a jacket 3- 20 oz bottles and other stuff. Wasn’t sure how much hydration id need since I didn’t fuel right beforehand. Plus wanted jacket just in case. Or else would have worn my waistbelt.

I kept going though should have turned around and attempted another day. I was head of my pace pro plan but the first bathroom stop ate it all away. So I had to try go harder to bank some time and get ahead of pace just in case it happened again. Was gas rest of run as well. I pushed on. Legs felt good early on. Saw maybe 30 people using trail today.

Made it to the end for the one way and touched both the stopsign and hoodlebug sign. I took a pic and clip as I was doing so as I turned around. This didn’t allow my shut phone off right away for one way so It added maybe 20 seconds and .05 to the one way route for me by time I turned around and got mapmy run finshed and saved.

A couple miles before the end of the one way and turn around for out and back my right shoe felt loose so I quickly retied them at a bridge railing. Then I was off. I had couple of mins of time banked but I knew id needs it. Maybe 5 mins. I knew I was gonna be slower by the time I got to the end form fatigue. My stomach also was turning again. So had to stop once again at a portajohn along the trail. It was the one before sheetz. So once again I lost a bunch of time banked. This worried me some as I knew I was slowing. Somehow managed to stay ahead.

Legs felt alright till round 13 miles in then I started feeling their decline. More so at 16 then way more at 18, 19,20. They were tight. I was also fading some from the inevitable headache. I pushed on and some how kept ahead pf pace and actually banked some time. Did get chillier as I went on. Did get stopped by Levity Brewing at that redlight for maybe 15 seconds on wayback I forgot about that. The other light I flew right through cause of no traffic.

Did eat one gel on way back and though I took 3-20ox bottle I may have had 12 oz total soi didn’t fuel really that much during run.

Other then that I think that’s its. It was not a good day for me. I should have quit the attempt but I pushed on. and somehow got it done. I guess im alright with my time. I know I could do better if I didn’t have stomach issues.
