Another lake to ocean 100k in the books ✔️ 12:01 finish time, first female and new course record/FKT by about 30 minutes. A much different story than last years fiasco, i came out for redemption/revenge and I got it!
The trails were very dry and runnable this year so i paced myself accordingly, doing a walk-run regimen from the very beginning and maintained extremely consistent splits (except in the flood zones I had to slog through) the last 15 miles were actually my fastest miles because I had saved my legs by starting so slow. However, i was very sad to miss a turn at the very end and run an extra 1.2 bonus miles, just barely missing that sub 12 hour finish. I hydrated and fueled well throughout the day and kept cool up until the storms hit about 1pm which took away much of the heat. Overall- it was a great day for me!! Considering I just ran a hard 35 mile mountain run FKT 6 days ago I’m super happy 😆
To wrap up - This run far exceeded my own expectations and I was just happy to come out another year to enjoy these trails. It truly is one of the most beautiful sections of florida trail and I will always love to come back and let it beat me up. I “hate to love this race” so much, when I say it’s gnarly it is GNARLY. One of the hardest trail races in Florida and only one I’ve ever considered DNFing (last year). But damn is it beautiful and rewarding. A true adventure!! Im happy with this effort so I may take a year or more off but you know I’ll be back!! In the meantime, time for some much needed rest.
