I was planning on running this trail north to south but the northern parking area had police "Do Not Park signs". Instead I drove to the southern parking area and felt much more comfortable there since it was designated as a Tunxis parking area. The first part was uneventful, but a bit unnerving to hear gun fire from the nearby shooting range. Old eroded jeeps roads and then reservoir roads consist of the first 3 miles, then the trail was mostly torn up, hard to follow, single track from ATVs. Coming off the blue blazes you then have to get on blue/purple, then blue/yellow and then blue/red. I got worried a few times and had to pull out my map to be sure I was on track. Lots of leaves, slick rock and erosion made it more difficult that it should have been. I would like to try this again in the late spring without the leaves and now knowing the trail.
