Overall, a fantastic day running the peaks and trail systems around the town we are so lucky to call home. Maria and I both ran the entire thing together. Two friends met us at the TH for Baldy (slightly over 23 miles in), the Horse Gulch TH (just under 39 miles in), and at the end of Tech Center Dr. (about 45 miles in) to resupply us with food and water. The temperatures got hot, as we expected they would in early September, which made for slow miles, but we made it work. We made some adjustments to Maggie's original route to be more efficient - however, while our route from Hogsback to Perins is easy to research and follow and in many guidebooks, I wouldn't recommend it. It is probably faster to suck up the extra mileage and go back around to the Rockridge TH. I still definitely feel confident that this could be done significantly faster. A note to anyone that the policies for state wildlife areas did change this year, and that access to Smelter and Perins therefore both require a hunting/fishing license.
