On the morning of 21st May I set off on the Annandale Way with my husband who was running it with me. We carried enough supplies with us for the first 16miles and enjoyed sunshine over the Beeftub. We had left supplies at Beattock and restocked there taking a breather before starting out on the next section. The weather closed in and we had some gusty winds and sustained showers but this didn’t detract from the beauty of the route. Some of fields were more challenging to traverse than expected due to lack of use and battling the long grass and nettles. At Loch Maben we restocked again my parents having brought some food and water we purchased. The next section was lovely but hard work as fatigue set in and I was battling nausea but I made it to Hoddom Castle where my dad met us with some more water. It was then to the end along the Annan and into Newbie. Once again a beautiful section but by this point I was just putting one foot in front of the other. However all in all a great day. There were a couple of diversions - one where the bridge had washed away!
Just as a note my watch died part way round so my time is a few mins shorter (time elapsed between getting my phone out/switching it on so I have used the time from my husbands watch for accuracy. Links to both parts of my run and my husband’s attached.
