I started from the East Branch trailhead and ran the loop CCW, this got the dirt road miles out of the way first, and gave me a nice water refill at the Wild River in the second half, which I definitely needed when I got there. It was very comfortable to start but things heated up on the Baldface ridge. Both Slippery Brook up and Eagle Crag/Wild River trails down were new terrain for me. I kept my expectations low, since I’ve always heard these trails are overgrown and can be hard to follow. There were certainly a few stretches that fit that description, but overall lots of really pleasant soft runnable sections too. I ran alone and carried all my food and water. I kept my watch on the navigation screen and just tried to keep a slightly uncomfortable pace all morning. Took a couple of inconsequential falls on the way down Wild River trail due to very boggy conditions. Finished the outing off with a really nice soak in the river (another good reason to start at East Branch). I hope this route sees more action in the future, it's a loop worth running!
