Wow, what a day! I worked with Bruno Halisi of Halisi Travels to coordinate the logistics of this trip since Kilimanjaro National Park mandates that you have a permit and guide. We were able to stage guides at various checkpoints along the way. I hit all my intended splits up to Mweka, Millenium, & Barafu camps. I also maintained good fueling and hydration. Above 15k feet, I started to experience symptoms of moderate altitude sickness including nausea and dizziness. I did not feel like my normal self at altitude at all. But I stuck with it and kept hiking with Deo. We spent a minute on the summit to snap a few pics and recollect ourselves before the journey down. I was able to go shorts and no gloves all the way to the summit- very different than the reconnaissance mission a few days prior. After descending in elevation, I began to feel better and we maintained a strong downhill pace. It was quite fun hopping over the rocky trail and cruising down the muddy and dusty sections. I’m sure there will be many more thoughts and details to come- just trying to get this uploaded as quickly as possible… I also wrote a brief trip report in my Instagram post. So many people to thank including Chris, Santi, & obviously Bruno for the support!
