I love this trail! I time trial it whenever I come visit my parents in Tucson. The lower section is pretty flowy while still moderately technical but soon after turning onto the Safford Peak trail thats when the real fun begins. I pushed pretty hard on the uphill, alternating between power hiking the steepest sections and running the not-as-steep sections. The scramble near the top is always the most fun--especially during a hard effort like this as you're dragging yourself up by your hands while gasping from the exertion of the steep run/hike up--but was a little slippery as it had rained all last night and the morning of the attempt. After reaching the top and starting the downhill I was able to catch my breath a little as it's hard to push fast on the steep rocky downhill sections. I got a little impatient with the slow pace and started to stride out a little earlier than I should have while still on the techincal section. As a result I rolled my ankle and had to hobble the rest of the way down the techy section. It felt good enough to push on by the time I got to the flatter part however, and I was able to finish strong. Overall a great day out on a fun trail!
