We came up with the route during the Covid county travel restrictions, as an excuse to find a good long looped route in the Dublin Mountains, and reccied it for a few months before finally getting the time to give it a go on 29th December 2020. We kicked off in the dark at 7.00am, weather was pretty cold with snow and wind for the whole first section from the start over as far as Ballymorefinn. Nav was tricky with snow covering the tracks and visibility was low. After Ballymorefinn we were out of the snow and had a little sunshine for a while. We headed on out towards Knockavannea before stopping on the way back at the road crossing near Stonecross. Had some lovely hot soup provided by Frank and then kicked on over Slievebawnogue, across the reservoir to Spinkeen, Montpelier, Killakee and Cruagh before stopping again to refuel and top up water at Tibradden carpark, where we had left one of our cars. After a short enough stop we headed on to Tibradden and then Kilmashogue. The tiredness began to set in at Kilmashogue and we started to feel the cold again on the way up to Fairycastle. From there on it was much colder and we were all suffering badly from Prince William's Seat to the finish, with the windchill really getting us. The ground from there home is wet at the best of times, so in December it was extremely wet and cold with some deep holes, and some snow again, making for a long slog home via Glendoo and back to the start. Now we have to try it in the summer!
