I’ve been meaning to give this run a go for ages and I finally found a window, conveniently finishing in Ivybridge for a family BBQ in the afternoon!
It was very rainy on the way to Belstone but the rain stopped just before I started and it turned out to be a great day for running, with improving visibility as the day went on.
Really enjoyed the route (although the tussocks up to Statt’s House weren’t so fun). Took a slightly different (but longer) line between Swincombe and Whiteworks as I’d recced that section a few weeks before and the pathless tussock section up from the dam was extremely slow going.
Took 1.5L of water with me - tried to refill at Postbridge visitor centre but it was shut and no sign of an outside tap (unless I missed it). Ended up refilling one bottle in the East Dart. Tried to pick up the pace on the Puffing Billy but the legs felt tired by then. I also encountered a herd of very curious cows being driven up the track by the farmer so this slowed progress a bit! All in all, a wonderful adventure on the moor.
