Description

A variant of the popular Dartmoor N-S crossing run.  This routes avoids roads as much as possible.

Start at Belstone and head up Belstone Tor - through Irishman's Wall - on to Oke Tor

Stay on the path (ridge)to Hangingstone Hill - Whitehorse Hill - Quintin's Man and then down to Little Varracombe

Head to Statts House ruin and then cross the East Dart river at Sandy Hole pass

Run alongside the river and then bear right at the waterfall and head towards Postbridge, picking up the footpath

Cross over the B3212 and follow the footpath to Bellver Tor - run past Dunnabridge pound over B3357 and pick up Swincombe river (keep on your right)

Pick up and follow the leat and then cross over the river and head to Whiteworks (avoiding Foxtor Mires to your left!)

Head to Nuns Cross - Crane Hill - Braod Rock - Red Lake and then on to the Two Moors Way

Follow the Two Moors Way to Spurrels Cross and then head towards Butterdon Hill and finally onto Western Beacon

(Or you may run the other direction.)

I'm not sure if it meets the requirements for this FKT or not, but on some investigating, it seems Brennan Townshend did a Dartmoor Crossing from Belstone gate to Ivybridge gate in 3:15:38 seconds on May 16th 2018. 3km shorter but follows a very similar route, diverging only for the middle few miles. Seems like it meets the spirit of this FKT.
