Two idiots, one route... We both managed to mess up the time to leave the house, and set off an hour later than we'd told Al's mum (who was starting to worry about where on earth we were, as his parents had kindly volunteered to be our taxi to the start). Embarrassingly we can't even blame that on the clocks changing as we'd actually accounted for that. Lyme Park... sadly Mr Darcy wasn't at home. White Nancy, lovely sunshine. Bumped into a bloke out for a run with his dog, he guessed what we were up to and told us he'd run it a couple of years ago. Managed to top up water in the loo at Tegg's Nose car park. What felt like a long haul up to the radio mast at Sutton Common. The section of old railway at Whitemoor felt like quite a drag... Found a random tap in a field a couple of miles before Mow Cop and debated whether we wanted to trust it, but concluded we'd deal with the consequences the next day (NB: both fine, 10/10 to that tap, although the taller member of the pair did fart his way round pretty much the entire route and blamed it on his electrolyte drink. Sure.). Slowed down towards the end as Al's knee was giving him quite a bit of trouble but he soldiered on, and then that bloody canal at the end! And finding the exact finish...probably the hardest bit of nav on the whole route. We went past it and had to backtrack, . Unsupported run, our water top ups came from a public loo and a random field tap, we carried all our own food. A splendid day out with one of my best mates.
