I ran this ~50 mile wilderness loop unsupported— carrying all my own supplies, food, safety gear, and filtering water along the way. I ran the same direction as the previous athletes. Temperatures were mid 50s-70s. Only one rattlesnake to jump. In addition to the route, I ran down to Vulcan lake for a swim, filter, and wash off the poison oak (~15 minutes or so). My tummy turned icky about 8 or 9 hours in. Thus, my pace slowed considerably. Sat on a two rocks and one log, which also slowed my pace. Lost the trail once, for 5 minutes or so.

I filtered water at the following: Chetco River, Box Canyon, Vulcan Lake, a spring in between Broken Cot Camp and Doe Flat, and Cold Spring. My Strava Laps are at trail junctions and/or water.

I spent almost two hours not moving according to the GPS; taking photos, filtering, washing, bonking, and sitting. The route is quite rugged, stark, and yet beautiful. I do imagine myself doing this again, but perhaps in the opposite direction. Or a Swinging Bridge to Vulcan Lake point to point.

Oh. And! Do not use the .JSON file provided on the homepage of this FKT; it is not current or a GPS route. It seems to closely match the Forest Service's trail layer. Way off, yo!
