This is a lovely trail to run, very senic and takes in some beautiful villages in the Lincolnshire wolds. I set of from my start point at Scartho with my race vest stocked for the run ahead of me with plenty of water and food as I wanted this to be unsupported and to test how long it would take me to complete the entire route solo. The sun was already getting warm right from the off and there was a goodly south / south west wind blowing so probably not the perfect conditions for trying the FKT but I was there so I took what mother nature was providing. As I was getting ready to start I realised the Great Grimsby 10k was already running so i took a few minutes to watch them before taking my place, starting my watch and going on my own adventure, St James church in Louth seemed a long way away at that point. I soon got into my stride and settled down to a pace I felt comfortable with, the miles soon starting ticking by, in places the grass was knee high which ment tougher going, but these unkept places were fewer than expected, the farmers do seem to keep this trail fairly runnable so thank you to the farmers for doing that. With the sun out this ment more people on the trail to say good morning to which broke the silence of running in my own thoughts. A few of the fields still had lambs in them which was a joy to watch as I passed through their fields, seeing them playing and jumping always brings a smile to my face, so many people miss these small events that go on but runners / walkers / ramblers we see it and appreciate it. The red kite population seems to be thriving as there was an abundance of them flying about and hovering in the southerly breeze.soon I was halfway through the adventure so into my race vest and out with a mini can of full fat coca cola a little treat I only enjoy on my longer runs, with that and a banana and a piece of kendal mint cake fueling me I new it would kick in and keep me sailing along. As the miles rolled by I soon found a nice little slog uphill to North Elkington and then met with a few miles of road, by this point and 19 ish miles in I still felt pretty good and trotting along with a goodly spring in my step. I was soon passing through a beautiful little forest and crossing a not so busy main road, once across the road and up another few hills there on my lefthandside was St.James church spire / steeple it might be still a few miles away but I remember seeing that several miles back in the distance and now only a few miles away, almost touching distance.... well maybe a little further but its a nice feeling when you can see the finish and even better when your legs are still feeling strong and wanting to run, it wasn't long before I entered the gate at Hubbards hills and wow how busy was that place with families, it was great to see so many parents with their kids outdoors running / playing / paddling in the stream and not on their phones. With only a mile or there about to go I put my final spurt on ' time to head for home ' well maybe not home but the end of my adventure. What a great site to see the steps of St James church and soon I was stopping my watch and enjoying a well earned sit down on the wall at the church. A fantastic adventure that I hope many people go on.
