It was quite the little journey to even get to the start of this one. Canoeing is an option but Chantal and I decided to hike it in. So about 2 hours of logging roads off the highway to get to the river crossing. We did this the night before and slept in the van. We started our trek to scarecrow lake bright and early. There are 2 water crossings and some bushwhacking with flagging tape. We also wanted to recon the route before we did it for time. The actual FKT route is very straight forward. There's really no other path to take and it's also well maintained. This is traveled much more thanks to people who canoed to the start.
The FKT went pretty well overall. I got started at about noon. I attempted to pace myself and be smart on the way up. My heart rate was through the roof. I'm not used to doing sustained climbs like this at a fast pace. I knew once I got to the fire tower though, it was all downhill from there. I managed to make it to the top without having a heart attack and headed back down. Going down fast for me is super dangerous. I really had to concentrate here. I did the best I could and made it back to the start point at scarecrow lake. I'm happy with my 49:07. Now it was time to make the trek back to the vehicle. Really fun adventure overall that I highly recommend. I can finally say I stood on top of Ontario's highest point!
Total Daily mileage with the trek from the river, recon the FKT, do the actual FKT, then trek back to the river=24 miles.
