I warmed up a couple miles and was ready to go. I got started at 6:30 AM. I had checked out the turn around point on the drive up. Other than that, I was doing this trail blind. I wasn’t worried though since it seemed very simple.
My first mile split seemed OK and I was hoping to build off of that. Instead, I was just getting slower. What I realized later was that the eastbound leg was slightly uphill. I powered up the punchy climbs near the turn around. I completed the 180 and kept rolling. Heading back felt much better and I realized I was running ever so slightly downhill. I took full advantage. This stuff hurts though! I pushed the best I could and made it to the end.
I fuelled well before and after so I didn’t have to bring anything with me during the run. I saw one lady with 3 dogs during the effort.
I'm very happy with the day. Parry Sound is really nice and I love scoping out new to me trails. I think the next one will be more technical so my lungs can have a break here and there. Feels good to put an FKT on the map in this area. On to the next one…
