I really wanted to fit this route in before the weather up here got too crazy. I'm glad I did. This is a side trail of the Ganaraska Trail, which I want to complete in full. That even includes another out and back in the wilderness section along with the main trail which I plan to do in the spring. I got things rolling at 7:30am. It was chilly to start but I knew I'd be warm soon. I started in the north which meant it was rail trail to start. Eventually, you go through a marsh section. There was a decent water source here, so I filled up my flask. Then it was some road sections before the beach. The trail is still detoured here so I followed the appropriate roads. I followed the coastline for a bit before heading into Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. This would be the real trail portion of the route. I really enjoyed this section. I made it through the park and it was time for more roads. My legs were really feeling the flat, road sections. I made my way through Stayner and then had another chance to fill up my flask. I think I would have a real problem trying to do this unsupported in warm weather. There were really only a few chances for clean water. The latter part of the route is roads, but mostly all uphill. It was also windy. I was really feeling it. In retrospect, I should have went south to north. It would have been a more downhill route and I think I wouldn't have been into the wind as much. Oh well. I finished with a little downhill and was glad I got it done. This distance, along with the flat, road sections certainly made it a challenge. Thanks to Chantal for meeting me at the finish, and giving me a ride back to my car.
