I was up in Surrey visiting my muother who lives in Dorking and my friend who lives by Leatherhead station and recently heard about the Mole Gap Trail linking the two towns together.

After reccying the route the day before I was happy with the routes various twists and turns and set out knowing that the current record would be quite hard to beat.

The route is absolutely stunning and I urge anyone doing this short 9.1km route to reccy it the day before becuase some of the scenery is just amazing, without knowing the router and given that the current record was fairly swift and given how short the route is, any wrong turn or missed turn could result in precious lost time.

I did the route from Leatherhead to Dorking and jogged it back, it seems there is a little more 'climb' going from Leatherhead to Dorking than there is doing the route in reverse.

On the day I chose to do my attempt the heavens well and truly openend just before I got to Denbies wine estate and the hills surrounding it punctured the cloud base and it was quite a sight.

I knew if I really went for it that it would be close and pushed hard in the final km to bag a 42:04 finish time, just inside the current record.
