I set out for a Sub 10hr Great Range Traverse in the Adirondack Park in NY with a full winter pack (~20lbs). The trails had a great spine with a light dusting on top. Thick ice covered many tricky areas. I had to use my ice axe a few times.
Faught nausea all morning. Wasn’t fueled or hydrated well. Body did not like or crave anything. forced down maple syrup, 2 gels, some rice krispies, 2 fruit grain bars and all the eIectrolytes. Not a single soul until Marcy decent. No one on trail all the way to Garden trailhead. Had to drink some stream water out of Johns Brook on my way out. River crossings were all easy to cross. Cold and windy on summits, warm and sweaty in between. Clothes freezed if lingered too long up top.
It was a great winter day to be on the range.
