I've been eyeballing this route for a bit. Wasn't sure as I participated in my first mountain race on Saturday 5/28 called the Patch Sprint located in the Adirondacks NY. Bethany and I scored a Mixed-Gender FKT on the Devils Path Sunday 5/29 in the Catskills NY. Come 5/31 (today) I was still sooo achy, but did a good warmup, popped some aspirin, and started at 730am to try to beat the heat as much as I could. Started with 2L of water and Tailwind and LMNT. Temps got close to 80, but I knew I'd be following a river (hence Cold River Loop). Stayed hydrated with many strong Electrolyte products. Had 2 Waffles and a Rice Crispy Treat (but carried way more). Carried a Sawyer mini squeeze also. Was trying to stay at 10 min/mile for most of it. The Northville Placid Section (NPT) was windy, rooty, and full of rolling hills. I'm glad I kinda banked some time on the Blueberry Trail leading to the start of the NPT. I peed while I ran (x2) and just wanted to save minutes if I needed to restock water. Ended having to do 2 refills-- consumed well over 3L. Shattuck's Clearing made me nervous as the trail splits-- I luckily chose the correct trail lol. The Horse Trail leading To Calkins Brook Truck Trail...pretty uneventful, but good time to crackle down and focus and bank a little time! Many awesome Lean-tos and campsites back in that wilderness and random metal objects! Chilled on the way out and ran right to Coreys Rd where I stopped my watch. I really loved this FKT--I like that it didn't have as much vertical gain as I'm used to in the ADKS. Suunto 9 Baro for tracking. Saucony Peregrine 11 for shoes. Ultimate Direction Vest and Nathan Sports running belt that holds water, phone and snacks. A good training day for the Cranberry Lake 50 FKT 😳 who's next?Â
