What an incredible day! I drove up from Salt Lake the afternoon before. Slept for a little bit and started just before 4:30! I finished in just under 10.5 hours and drove home the same day. I biked to the string lake parking lot, locked up my bike, then ran with my wetsuit and pack for the 1 mile of trail to Leigh Lake. The swim out in the morning was incredible. I was underneath Moran's embrace right as the sun came up and made the water look like fire with each stroke I took. I made it to the top of Moran in just over 2:20 and took a good long picnic break at the summit. I soaked in the views of the Grand and the valley below while reveling in the enjoyable scrambling I had just done. Looking down on Leigh lake, I knew the swim back would be rough, as the wind had already created a strong current. Inevitably, I got sucked into it and the swim back took me an extra 800m and 30 minutes longer of swimming! Once out of the water, I ran the 1 mile of trail back to my bike, loaded up my pack and wetsuit, and hauled it all back to town. One of the best solo and unsupported adventure days I've ever had. I saw no one on Moran and had the whole beautiful thing to myself. What a treat!
