Hi!
I ran from the MacFarlane / Pierce Lake parking lot (shown in start/finish pics) up to the summit of Mount MacFarlane, this ended up being 20.93km despite me thinking it would be 16km as per trail write ups and strava data found on the route - wahoo bonus kilometers. There is only 1 route up this mountain so I was certainly on track and I have done it in previous years. I completed this in an Elapsed time of 4 hours and 10 mins 54 seconds (starting time: 12:04, ending time captured: 4:15pm).
Please (please) note my watch glitched incredibly, despite appearing to track distance as I was moving, there were 2 pauses where it lost GPS and I paused (and video'd) that it was looking for GPS, but it showed as having reconnected. My Suunto has never done this before and so I have uploaded all of the videos and photos I took hoping this will provide sufficient proof and evidence of my FKT journey! I started at 12:04pm on Saturday Aug 8th. Where my watch shows and somehow tracked me, truly does not exist. It would include diving down a cliff which I promise I did not!
I did an out and back & as per my trip safety plan I sent 3 messages to my 2 emergency contacts at the upper Pierce lake, Mount MacFarlane summit, and once I returned to the upper lake on my way down. The summit was an amazing climb & scramble with a lot of crab-crawling on route down due to wet slippery rocks. There was not a single other person there, likely due to being totally fogged in! The safety messages and time stamps are attached as images from my In Reach Mini app and my videos and pictures from along the way and at the summit with the 2 cairns.
I used my Garmin inreach mini tracking roughly every 10 seconds but without much sending in the lower tree covered portions.
It was SO freaking awesome and I am truly very proud of my time and really don't want to have to go do this again haha..or not right away anyways. It could have been faster on the way down but it was wet and slick so I played it safe! I ate food from what I packed (6 Gu gels) and drank Tailwind from my hydration pack and 500ml soft flask, carrying 2L total and did not need to refill. I started and finished alone with no support along the way.
Prior to running I searched the strava segments and elapsed time of other females on the route and the fastest I found was 5hr, 25 mins total. On strava the fastest male time to the top is 1:59:40 and second male 2:14:22, then my time from today at the top, followed by third male at 2:23:51. The fastest woman to the top previously comes in at 2:45:25. Today I did this and learnt how to upload videos to youtube- BIG DAY! :)
