Overnight rains left almost 2 inches of rain, at many times the AT was a stream of cold water. Temps were sorta perfect, 43F with 20-30mph winds, so real feel was always around 38F. Beautiful snowsqualls would appear out of nowhere, winters last gasp! Had a few moments of sunshine peeking and warming things briefly.
Tracy dropped me off at the southern end and was graciously available with chocolate milk at the end, in an all out blizzard. Topped off water at 4.5mile spigot. Caledonia bathrooms were locked, took some time up at Quarry Gap Shelter to filter. Next water stop was all the way at Pine Grove General store. Only used 1 Tailwind, finished all the gels. I really dislike vests, but decided to run with one instead of my usual Salomon belt. Ran with Ultraspire Basham, works pretty well.
The vert isnt all that tough, but its so rocky a lot of the time, tough going when you are trying to get in a nice flow. Flowy sections certainly punctuate from time to time. It would be "fun" to run Michaux+4 State Challenge for a rocky 100 miler!
