We started our southbound unsupported NJ FKT attempt on 4/17/21 at 5:55am. We carried all of our own food and water and refilled using filters from natural sources ( including a sketchy lake in which Melinda caught a tadpole in her bottle !!!). Conditions and weather were ideal - temps in the 40’s to mid 50s throughout the day . We did get chilly when stopping to filter water at night but warmed up quickly with the climbs throughout. We were fortunate to see some wildlife as well - two porcupines, deer, bunnies and we could hear some coyotes howling at night. Though we were hoping to finish in under 24 hours we’re still quite happy to have accomplished this trek and come out safely in one piece !
