We completed the Pine Ridge Trail from west to east, starting at the West Ash Creek Trailhead and ending at the East Ash Trailhead. Our group of three friends ran together, with outside support from our spouses at a few road crossings, where they provided food and water. This was an excellent time of year for the trail: cool but not cold, dry, and with beautiful fall colors along many of the small streams.
Having done the trail in spring, we previously enjoyed the lush green landscape, though that season came with an abundance of ticks. In fall, we found the cooler, drier conditions more comfortable. As a note for future runners, staying vigilant about spotting each trail marker is essential. We missed a turn at one point, which led to some backtracking, adding to our total mileage.
While a dangerous encounter is highly unlikely, potential hazards on this trail include cattle, rattlesnakes, and the occasional mountain lion.
