A fantastic little trail, well groomed and easy to navigate, even in the dark.
I parked at the northern terminus of the trail where it joins to the Viking way and headed down the hill into Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir. After passing Belvoir, the trail follows the top of the short escarpment which provided a fantastic view of the valley even though it was midnight at the time.
As the trail then turned towards Eaton, I felt the temperature drop and the ground was firmer, helping me move at a steady pace.
Before long, I had passed Goadby Marwood and Scalford, heading further south into Melton Country Park and then into Melton Mowbray itself.
After Burton Lazars, there was a rise in temperature above the freezing point which made the trek towards Little Dalby the most difficult, as this section is largely flat and wet fields.
Having finished at Burrough Hill, I jumped on my bike and peddled back to the start.
I'm sure this would be a great trail to run in daylight and I expect that sub 3 hour times will be easily surpassed.
