In order to set a decent safety standard on our attempt at the FKT, we brought a rope (27 metres), and simul-climbed the entirity of the route from Halls Fortopp to the summit and return. We brought along all of the pro we used (3 cams + 2 slings), but clipped a few in-situ pitons on the finger traverse.
Johan led all the climbing.
It would indeed be feasible for a competent climber who handles exposure well to free-solo the entire route (and this has been done multiple times by many people) and thereby shave some time off, by negating the need to carry the extra gear. But we wanted to set a "safe" precedent, and hopefully not encourage anyone to climb without a rope in an attempt to set a faster time.
We timed the route from the edge of the paved parking area.
Our time was 1:39 to the summit and 2:42:31 roundtrip.
